Where are you from?
I was born in the UK but moved to Canada with my family in my early teens. I’ve lived in Western Canada now for almost 40 years and currently call Medicine Hat, Alberta, home.
Why did you want to become a Photographer?
I was given my first film camera as a child, and although the technology has greatly evolved since then, I’ve always had a camera close at hand to record the people, things and places that have inspired me. Since I love of our natural world, it quickly became my favourite place to photograph.
Why did you choose this particular shot to be your favorite photograph?
While this is a simple photo, I believe it also includes some of the more complex elements of nature. I came across this young black bear on a ridge where s/he was foraging for berries and rosehips in an attempt to pack on those last few pounds before winter. The warm colours of fall are shown in the sedges and grasses, while the rain, along with the cooler shades of background blue, provide a stark contrast. Fall can sometimes be a very short season in the Rockies, and I believe this image shows that well, and also underlines why animals need to move quickly to ensure they’re in prime condition to survive the winter.
Anything else you want to add?
I love not only being in the great outdoors but also sharing my experiences and images with those who also have an appreciation for our natural world. I would therefore like to invite everyone to view more of my images on my website and read more about them at my blog
