Where are you from?
I’m from the Midlands in England, but have lived in Japan for most of the last 22 years, and I’m now a Japanese citizen.
Why did you want to become a Photographer?
The main reason I wanted to become a photographer is because I have always loved art, creating things and travel. I love sharing my vision and what I have learned with others. Being a photographer enables me to do all of these things and get paid for it. I’m living the dream.
Why did you choose this particular shot to be your favorite photograph?
Although I’m best known for my stark Japanese Winter and Antarctica work, I chose this photo from Deadvlei in Namibia because I love the graphic elements of the camel thorn trees against the orange/red sand dune. If you ask me in six months though, it will be a different photo. I believe our latest work should always be our best. If it isn’t, we may be stagnating. Our work is a culmination of everything we’ve done before, and should always be building on our past experiences.
