Where are you from?
I was born in Gold Beach, Oregon, USA, on a dark and stormy August night. I grew up on the Oregon coast in the very tiny town of Denmark, OR on a llama ranch
Why did you want to become a Photographer?
Photography always interested me, but I didn’t have my own camera until I was 20 years old. A Sony Mavica FD92. I started taking photos of my car using the Oregon landscape to add something more to the images. From there I branched out to landscape and then journalism when I was hired as a newspaper/photographer at a small town paper. I don’t consider myself very artistic, and it’s something I stumbled into. It has been a wild ride so far and I am lucky to have something to be passionate about!
Why did you choose this particular shot to be your favorite photograph?
I chose this photo because it was during a time in my life I would like to forget, but cannot. At the time we were all sitting around waiting to hear news about a recent IED attack that happened to our sister platoon. There is an unexplainable peace when I am behind the camera and at the time that calming feeling was something I needed. I set the exposure, fired the shutter and this is the resulting image.
Anything else you want to add?
I am lucky enough to acquired a decent sized collection over the years of many different cameras, and I love every one of them. The best camera is the one you have with you, so rather than get wrapped up in the brand I chose to enjoy what photography gives me. Photography gives me a way to express myself, to take a moment in time and put my own personal perspective on it and then share it with the world.
