Where are you from?
i live in a town called bradenton, on the gulf coast of Florida. it is a pretty nice spot for one who likes water-related activities. each time i travel i also realize that it is a pretty sweet home from which to base oneself.
Why did you want to become a Photographer?
Capturing the crux of a moment has always fascinated me. situations change rapidly and a scene which may have been completely commonplace one moment can become absolutely miraculous the next. i love that photography allows one to capture that miraculous moment for everyone who was not there or may have simply been looking in another direction.
Why did you choose this particular shot to be your favorite photograph?
i have named this image the “circle of life.” patterns in nature always interest me, but this photo also touches on my previous point about how situations are constantly changing. my dive buddy and i were around these fish (almaco jacks) for about 30 minutes at a depth of 90 feet. when we were at the same depth as the fish it was difficult to really see what they were doing. however, upon ascending we looked down to see the school of fish tighten into this spiral pattern which created a mesmerizing sight. i believe they are engaged in what is known as a reef fish spawning aggregation and the fact that this behavior normally goes on out of sight of most humans adds another level of interest for me.
