Where are you from?
Currently I live in Morris Illinois, USA. My wife and I are going to be retiring soon and are planning on moving to eastern Tennessee. The Smokey Mountains and the parks in that state are a photographer’s paradise.
Why did you want to become a Photographer?
When I was a kid my dad was very big into photography as a hobby. He had Nikon’s, Minolta’s and Hasselblads along with all the different lenses. We use to go out to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle Il. and all the parks around the suburbs of Chicago and burn up the film. We had a blast. After he passed away photography was put on the back burner until about 7-8 years ago when I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon D300 and a copy of Photoshop CS3. I was hooked again and have never looked back. I am planning on doing this full time and traveling around the country in an RV very soon. If my dad was still around I think he would be very proud of how far I have advanced from the old film days.
Why did you choose this particular shot to be your favorite photograph?
“Hot Air Balloon Over The Middle Falls” from Letchworth State Park is currently my favorite. I have been fortunate to have had it used in a couple of New York travel publications. What makes it special to me is the subject matter. The waterfall, the hot air balloon, the beautiful old railroad trestle, and the autumn colors. Those 4 things together just make it the perfect shot in my opinion. Also, through this photograph I have met a lot of wonderful people in the Letchworth State Park and Finger Lakes area including Sean Quigley of Balloons Over Letchworth who is the balloon pilot in the photograph. There is nothing better than a nice photograph and nice people to share it with.
