Why did you choose this particular shot to be your favorite photograph?
Wildlife and nature photography deeply resonates with me. I was inspired to make this image about ten years ago. Snowy owls are truly magnificent creatures. They are relatively rare in my area. After searching for them unsuccessfully for many years, I finally found this one in November of 2011. I spent approximately an hour photographing this snowy and I was hooked. That winter, I photographed snowy owls every chance I could. Spending so much time with the owls allowed me to develop a strong respect for them. They are survivors. Most of the owls that I photographed were yearlings. They had flown thousands of miles to Massachusetts to escape the harsh winter in the arctic. To me they are a symbol of hope for the entire natural world. This image is called “At Attention”, because the snowy reminds me of a little soldier.
