Where are you from?
I was born and raised in the province of Alberta in Canada. Currently I live in a small town in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies called Cochrane.
Why did you want to become a Photographer?
I was a biologist first and part of that job required that I take pictures to help me get grants to do research. My photography was terrible so I read books and practiced and learn how to take photos. Soon my passion for photography won out over my passion for biology!
Why did you choose this particular shot to be your favorite photograph?
For several reasons. First, few people like to photograph winter but I think the simplicity and graphic nature of winter is beautiful. Second this area, the Kootenay Plains of Alberta is a special place to me and is one of the last undeveloped areas on the eastern slope of the Canadian Rockies. Third, this photo was one that helped me win Travel Photographer of the year in 2008 (http://www.tpoty.com/winners/2008) and so had a pivotal importance to my career.
Anything else you want to add?
For photographers who want to visit Abraham Lake and the Kootenay Plains my partner, Samantha Chrysanthou and I have created a detailed guidebook on the area that is available as an eBook here – http://oopoomoo.com/ebook/kootenay-plains-and-abraham-lakewinter-edition/ we also do photo workshops on the lake in winter – http://oopoomoo.com/ebook/kootenay-plains-and-abraham-lakewinter-edition/
